June 2025 – New York, NY

As part of National Gun Violence Awareness Month, Assembly Member Rebecca A. Seawright has reaffirmed her commitment to firearm safety by voting in support of Francesco’s Law—a legislative measure she co-sponsors. The bill mandates the safe and secure storage of rifles, shotguns, and other firearms, aiming to reduce gun-related tragedies.

Assembly Member Seawright dedicated her vote to Francesco, a gifted and compassionate 17-year-old from Long Island who tragically lost his life in October 2021 using an unsecured family firearm. Francesco had been a victim of relentless bullying due to his bisexuality. His story has become a rallying call for stronger firearm storage laws and LGBTQ+ youth mental health awareness.

“Francesco was a brilliant, kind, and talented young man,” Seawright said. “This legislation is about saving lives and honoring his memory with action.”

Francesco’s Law is a critical step in addressing the intersection of gun safety, mental health, and LGBTQ+ youth protection. It also reflects broader efforts by Francescos Foundation and advocates across the state to ensure tragedies like Francesco’s are prevented through education, legislative change, and community support.
